ಕೋಲಾರ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮಾಲೂರಿನ ಬಳಿ ಇರುವ ಚಿಕ್ಕತಿರುಪತಿ 4 ಸಾವಿರ ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಸುದೀರ್ಘ ಇತಿಹಾಸವಿದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲದೇ, ಈ ಪುಣ್ಯಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಚಿಕ್ಕತಿರುಪತಿಯ ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ದಿವ್ಯ ವಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ಸ್ವತಃ ಪಂಚಭೂತಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬನಾದ ಅಗ್ನಿದೇವ ಪ್ರತಿಷ್ಠಾಪಿಸಿ, ಪೂಜಿಸಿದ ಎಂಬ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಇದೆ.

ಈ ಸ್ಥಳದ ದಂತಕಥೆಯು ಮಹಾಕಾವ್ಯವಾದ ಮಹಾಭಾರತದಲ್ಲಿನ ಕಂಡವ ದಹನದ ಪ್ರಸಂಗಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದೆ. ದಹನದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ತಕ್ಷಕ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಗಾಯಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕಾಡಿನಿಂದ ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು ಮತ್ತು ಅವನು ತನ್ನ ದೈವತ್ವವನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಅಗ್ನಿಯನ್ನು (ಅಗ್ನಿ ದೇವರು) ಶಪಿಸಿದನು. ಶಿವನು ಸೂಚಿಸಿದಂತೆ, ಅಗ್ನಿಯು ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶದಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಷ್ಣುವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿ ತನ್ನ ಸ್ಥಾನಮಾನವನ್ನು ಮರಳಿ ಪಡೆದನು.
The temple is open from 6 a.m. to evening 7:30 p.m. without a break and the temple is open throughout all the 7 days of week. The temple priests perform the pooje (rituals) during festivals and on a daily basis. As at other Vishnu temples in the nearby state Tamil Nadu, the priests belong to the Vaishnavaite community, a Brahmin sub-caste. The temple rituals are performed four times a day: Ushathkalam at 8 a.m., Kalasanthi at 10:00 a.m., Sayarakshai at 5:00 p.m. and Ardha Jamam at 7:00 p.m. Each ritual has three steps: alankaara (decoration), neivedhya (food offering) and deepa aradane (waving of lamps) for both Venkateshwara and his consort Alamelumanga. During the worship, religious instructions in the Vedas (sacred text) are recited by priests, and worshippers prostrate themselves in front of the temple mast. There are weekly, monthly and fortnightly rituals performed in the temple.
